Vehicle Story
In 2015, a customer called us to help them find a solid Scout to purchase. We went with the customer to assess the Scout they found and advised them on the quality of the truck, which was quite good except for the roof. This was a solid Scout, with great paint and no rust. We then took the rig back to our shop and got to work!
We worked our D&C magic to convert this stock Scout 800A into a more reliable, off-road-worthy truck. We replaced the roof with a freshly painted, dent-and-rust-free unit. We replaced the entire suspension, adding Scout II Dana 44 axles with a front axle cut-and-turn, regeared the axles with 3.54 Yukon gears featuring a Trac Lok limited slip rear end. We added a Scout II steering box, HEI DUI distributor with Live Wires, and tuned the 266 engine for driveability.
Key to this great Scout’s value is the suspension, featuring our secret sauce of vehicle weight matched 2.5″ leaf springs with front reverse shackles. One drive and you will not believe that this truck rides on leaf springs! The wider springs, fitted bushings, and perfect spring rates put this Scout head and shoulders above any other suspension system.
